Three Men Die in Troy Club Fire Tragedy
In Troy on December 30, Moses T. Clough a senior lawyer and Dartmouth Class of 1848 survivor William Shaw head of Shaw Bailey and Murphy and Benjamin W Kinney manager of Puller Warren Company died in a four story Troy club building blaze. Edward Carpentier of New York escaped from an upper window and is recovering from smoke inhalation. Fire started on upper floors where victims slept around 10 pm as flames roared through. police report a separate man attempted arson at a Broadway Fifth Avenue newsstand but escaped. The club house built a decade or so ago cost about half a million dollars with losses estimated at 56000.
