Widward P. Black of 221 Bret Harte avenue in Reno inherits about 95000 from the estate of his mother Mrs Mary Palmer Black of New York. The New York state transfer tax department valued the estate at 631603 cross value and 574529 net, with Black’s share one sixth after specific bequests. The residuary goes to Mrs Elizabeth Barker William Black and George Black. Mrs Black died October 10 1947 in New York and was socially prominent as a York Club and DAR member.

Major Floyd Wikstrom Graduates At Maxwell AFB
Major Floyd E. Wikstrom of Reno Nevada graduated December 17 from the air command and staff school at Maxwell air force base Alabama. He is married to a Reno resident and came from Fielson AFB Alaska where he served as operations officer of the 97th bomb wing. He received the air medal and is rated as a senior pilot. The five month course includes field trips to Fort Benning Pensacola and Elgin AFB. General Kenney commands the air university and Major General Barnes heads the air command and staff school.

Prisoner Faces Specious Money Charge Here
John Jack Crawford a bricklayer formerly of Stockton California was arraigned in federal court before Judge Rogert T Foley and pled guilty to two counts of passing counterfeit money. The sentencing date was set for January 7 with a pre sentence investigation to be conducted. The information alleges he attempted to defraud the U S government and slot machine owners in Las Vegas on December 6 with seven counterfeit coins resembling silver dollars and passed two counterfeit coins in Searchlight. Crawford was arrested in Las Vegas on December 10 and held in Washoe County jail after being brought to Reno. Attorney Ray Flannary represented Crawford and William J Kane prosecuted for the government.

Christmas 1948 Welter of Mishaps Hits Reno This Season
Christmas 1948 arrived in Reno with multiple traffic accidents and arrests. A 73-year-old woman, Sadie Bowles, died after a crash on Moana Lane and South Virginia Road. Four others were injured, including Hazel McComas and Joan Green. Nadine Farr was hurt in another crash on East Fourth Street. A Plymouth failed to stop, causing a head on collision as Green swerved back onto the highway. Farr was treated at Washoe General for facial lacerations and broken teeth. Pratt, the driver, faced reckless driving charges. Two more motorists were arrested for alcohol and reckless driving amid holiday incidents. Police blotters noted Lisbon, festive misbehavior, and several intoxication cases requiring attention.

Tallest Tree Derby Entries Include Tahoe City Pine

Rescued Man Near Death After Sierra Ordeal
SAN FRANCISCO December 25 One of the Kruger brothers is in a Fresno hospital in critical condition with malnutrition and exposure and may need amputation. The two Fresno men were found by a deputy sheriff in Dinkey Creek ravine Bear Mountain after ten days lost in snow. They had abandoned a tungsten mine tractor, built a fire to survive four days and nights, and faced certain death as food ran out.
