Fatal Shooting Affray in Santa Cruz Saloon
Santa Cruz on Dec 23 saw James Harris shot and killed in a saloon by R H Majors after a long standing feud. Harris fired through Majors coat pocket. Majors returned fire wounding Harris three times, then shot Harris in the heart. Harris, about 50, known as a dangerous drunk. Majors, a Santa Cruz native and foreman at bituminous rock mines, had previously killed a Vasquez gang member while aiding the sheriff.
