The Gazette wishes readers happy holidays and extends greetings to the people of Nevada. It hopes every Nevada family gathers around a Christmas board filled with cheer and the Christ spirit of peace on earth and good will to men.
A large audience including President Roosevelt and cabinet members attended the funeral for Julia Dent Grant widow of the former president. The service at the Metropolium Church followed a family gathering at the home, with the casket adorned and prayers led by Dr Bristol. The family then departed by train to New York, Grant to attend tomorrow’s city ceremonies.
In St. Louis, Louisiana Purchase Flag Day observances are noted with public and private displays. A proclamation from the governor's office calls attention to the anniversary celebrated with addresses and ceremonies at the Administration Building and related venues.
The Iowa Supreme Court today granted new trials in two murder cases The defendants Philipps and Hooks were condemned for the murder of Marshal Senblad in like city and sentenced to hang The court also granted a new trial for Mat Ehun convicted of murdering Homer Holland at Mount Ayr and sentenced to life imprisonment Holland was a renowned college athlete The unsettled action reflects ongoing post trial relief efforts in suspected homicide cases.
The anthracite coal strike commission adjourned after today's session in Scranton to reconvene January 6 in Philadelphia. Attorneys for nonunion men pressed witnesses from Lackawanna and Dauphin counties about violence intimidation and boycotts to halt nonunion work. Myerett Warren for Lehigh Valley Coal Company presented company statements. John E. Ott testified about merchants in Ardmore Mald Fay boycotting because he worked in mines. A youth witness described an injury in a store linked to a father who was a nonunion man. Another witness said strikers tried to push him out of a volunteer fire company before he returned to mine work.
Cornelius Vanderbilt, ill with typhoid fever and peritonitis, showed improvement as doctors reported this morning. Bulletin notes better condition and more encouraging signs, with several physicians staying at the house through the night.

Senate conferees reported on pay and expenses for workers, and measures authorized a million dollars for Hawaii flood/bubonic plague relief.
An open letter from M. E. Palmer denies a Palmera elopement report and asserts her son may be leaving town. Separately, freight train 214 eastbound derailed into a ditch at Cascade, causing four hours of delay with no injuries.

Sheriff Dickson of Wayne county says Governor Bliss’ letter is to ensure no laws are broken, not to block the Corbett McGovern fight. He will bring an expert to the bout to ensure proper conduct, while Bliss plans to confer with him to prevent the event if possible.
A former maid at Henry Bennett’s stock farm linked to the Laura Biggar conspiracy case reportedly disappeared. Prosecutors and defense counsel remained uncertain about her whereabouts as the court withheld a potential witness order, and Russ Deskin was seen at the American Hotel through yesterday.
