Secretary Carlisle Urges Three Percent Bonds for Revenues

Secretary Carlisle delivers an extensive report to Congress noting a $29.918 million deficit in the first five months of the fiscal year. He proposes selling three percent bonds under $200 million, extending specie payments, and expanding currency reserves to avert public-service disruption. He also discusses tariff policy, silver purchases, and Pacific railroad obligations, urging prompt action.

What Hoase's Merchants Have to, Bay About 1993

Alfred Nelson runs a tobacco and clothing store on Virginia street and can offer lower prices since he owns his brick building. COIN & CLARK deal in second hand goods and loans, plus tailoring, with growing business and no complaints about the year. RENG MILL AND LUMBER COMPANY operates a full-scale mill and yard under Mr. Gualling, with ample pine and redwood stock and strong recent collections. COFFLIN & LARCOMBE sell country produce and groceries with a large varied stock and strong local patronage. The Gazette notes a prosperous, hustling trio of Reno-raised merchants and ends with the new couple Bangham welcomes. Narrow escape: Major Dennin skirts a platform fall on a west-bound train, bruised but safe. Edith Howe, Verna Bright and Albert Howe visit the Gazette office.
