Grand Jury in San Francisco Declared Illegal by State Supreme Court

The State Supreme Court rules the present San Francisco Grand Jury an illegal body. Assemblyman Bruner sought a writ to stop Judge Wallace from proceeding on an indictment for malfeasance in office. Justices McFarland Garroute Harrison and Patterson concur. De Haven and Sharp dissent.

Lawsuit Overland Grant To Wiggins Ferry Dispute

Authentic reports from St Louis state Geo Shields proposes a judgment of 878360 against Chicago and Alton for failing to honor a 1864 contract that allowed perpetual river crossing for freight and passengers via Wiggins Ferry. Damages may total 3 million plus as cases mount.

Devastating Storm Drags Down Churches and Damages Orange Groves

In Pasapena California a severe storm between 2 and 3 am caused massive property damage. Roofs tore off, church buildings wrecked, windows smashed, and construction sites blown away. The orange crop laid low with many fruits unfit for market. Telegraph lines down, Raymond Hotel slightly damaged. Estimated property damage around forty thousand dollars. Foster reported improving in Washington but still weak.

The December 10 1891 Knights of Pythias ball lit up the hall with evergreens flowers and lodge emblems. The Uniform Rank performed in full dress and a lavish supper followed as dancing lasted past 4 am. Mrs George hosted a progressive euchre party for the Misses German and Mendoza and Miss Cecil McNevin celebrated her 16th birthday with friends. Thomas Fitzgerald left for Dunsmeir California for a higher post and may be followed by his family. Rumors speak of upcoming marriages before year end. The public school event on the 18th was postponed due to venue issues and schools will close December 18 for vacation.
