W H Wooda and a female companion named True Johnson were arrested in Omaha for allegedly cartering stolen diamonds and jewelry from Alfred F Lowenthal a traveling salesman The loot valued at about 15000 included three thousand dollars in diamonds and jewelry along with travel fares to Portland An earlier break in occurred when Lowenthal’s hotel room was robbed of two hundred thirty three diamond brooches ninety three scarf pins and numerous diamond rings The pair deny knowledge and authorities traced the items via pawn broker records
Mrs Ada Hilbert Dennis, a noted dress maker, is in critical condition after a mysterious assault in her Washington apartment. Detectives report only fragmented statements and wait for a possible disclosure tomorrow as her nephew William Johns cooperates with police. Temperature reports and separate crimes follow: a Shreve burglary of a bank safe and a Wooster University fire cause estimated losses.

Rader speaks January 16, Wheeler January 14, Stubbs February 6, with music at each lecture.

Relatives of opera soprano Christine Nilsson Nordica report she has placed a claim with former Speaker Thomas B Reed and another attorney seeking between three and four million dollars. She asserts direct descent and heirship from Ichabod Norton, a wealthy Revolutionary War ship owner, whose cargoes were seized by French vessels. Nordica says indemnities were not paid to Norton or heirs and has produced a genealogy supporting her claim.
Fire gutted the LeRoy Payne Company stables at 171 Michigan Ave destroying the ceremonial carriage used by President McKinley during the 1898 peace jubilee memorial events. Fire follow up reports say no further cause given. Local authorities plan hearings for Chapman and others tied to burglaries and pistols recovered.
An attempt to derail a westbound Erie train was made last night near an unspecified location. Heavy ties were laid on the rails and the engineer, upon discovering the obstruction, could not stop the engine before it was derailed. no further damage or injuries are reported.
