Freight rates increased for eastbound traffic January start
Washington December 10 Transcontinental freight tariffs to rise on all east bound rail and water traffic beginning January. Westbound class rates stay the same. Westbound commodity rates from Atlantic seaboard to Pacific coast terminals up about 10 percent. Eastbound first class rates drop from 3.70 to 3.00 per hundred. Chicago and Central traffic area first class rates fall from 3.40 to 3.00 per hundred pounds.

Wreck of Westbound North Coast Limited Near McKenzie
A northbound North Coast Limited train of over 200 aboard derailed after striking a broken rail 20 miles east of McKenzie Nebraska. The engine cleared the embankment but the tender baggage and mail cars fell away. Three day coaches two sleepers and the dining car plunged into a deep snow drift but no fatalities occurred. Eight babies escaped uninjured as the hard packed snow prevented greater damage. Continued on Page Two.

Dec. 10 Tom Keating a 14 year old son shot his father with a .22 calibre Winchester in defense of his mother during an altercation. The wound was not dangerous and the boy was not held.
