Rickey Arrested in San Francisco on Contempt Bond

T B Rickey was arrested in San Francisco Saturday afternoon and held in the United States court on a contempt issue related to a Walker River water suit. He posted 580 for appearance in Carson City on December 7 and was released. He faces a hearing before Commissioner Thurtell in Reno on why he should not be punished for contempt of court for not obeying a subpoena to testify in the Miller and Lux versus Pacific Livestock matter.

Trains collision near Haney injures many fatalities reported

Two killed and three seriously hurt after a collision between passenger trains on the Santa Fe Plainview branch at Haney Texas fourteen miles west of Amarillo. Both engines leaped into the air and wreckage blocked the line. None of the passengers were seriously injured.

Humboldt Deputy Sheriff Killed While Making Arrest

Humboldt deputy sheriff Taylor was shot in the back and killed during an attempted arrest of Charles Barr on a Kings River ranch. Barr fled on a horse and eluded capture as authorities across Nevada and neighboring California, Idaho, and Utah search for him. Barr, a vaquero with a medium height and 180 pounds, is believed headed toward Susanville and San Francisco to reach relatives. Sheriff Lamb warns this murder is deliberate and cold blooded.

Miller files suit to dissolve Nat C Goodwin Brokerage Company

Warren A. Miller seeks a receiver and dissolution of Nat C. Goodwin Brokerage Company. He alleges fraudulent stock dealings in 2,306,000 shares of Ranhi Coalition Mines and seeks $110,000 against Nat C. Goodwin and George Graham Rice. He claims misrepresented solvency, resignation under pressure, and loss of 5,000 Goodwin company shares now valued at about $500,000. He also seeks return of his stock from Scheene Banking and Trust.

Cold Weather Hit Nebraska Iowa And Missouri

A string of winter readings from December 7 shows Nebraska recording three below zero in Omaha and Norfolk posting fell temperatures to three below. Des Moines reached six below while Kansas City notes a 25 degree drop bringing the low to ten above zero across Missouri and Kansas.

Miller and Lux Lose in Appeal Before Supreme Court

Washington December eight. In Miller and Lux versus East Side Canal and Irrigation Co. the Supreme Court affirmed the United States circuit court for the southern district of California. Miller and Lux own land on the San Joaquin river headwaters and sought to prohibit water diversion for irrigation outside their lands. The circuit court voided the suit as collusive Nevada incorporation to sue in federal court. Justice Harlan announced the decision.

Scantily Clad Run From Fire At Kaiserhof Hotel

Chicago reports a fire in the Kaiserhof hotel kitchen sending thick smoke into corridors and lobbies. Managers urged calm and alerted guests above the fire floor while grease buildup behind a range caused the blaze. An employee was overcome by smoke as fire engines arrived near McCoy's hotel nearby.

Dispatcher Keeley Convicted In Wreck Case

Thompson Montana district court finds former Northern Pacific dispatcher Keeley guilty of involuntary manslaughter over the Olive Montana wreck that killed five on September 8. Jurors recommend eight months in the state penitentiary. Chief Dispatcher Ringer and Operator Mitchell acquitted.
