Holiday Labor Day Traffic Toll Begins

The Labor Day weekend saw a sharp start to highway carnage as 37 immediate traffic deaths were reported by noon EST. British Truman Propose Answer To Iran Crisis

The United States and Britain proposed a three point settlement of the Anglo Iranian oil crisis. Rail unions win big skirmish for union shop on rails

Organized labor wins a major point as eastern railroads agree to a compulsory union membership provision for many non operating workers. The deal with 17 unions follows an emergency board recommendation for a nationwide union shop, though exemptions and scope remain unsettled. Walkout at atomic plant shocks Paducah

In Paducah Kentucky 15000 construction workers walked off the billion dollar atomic energy plant project yesterday after 200 operating engineers were discharged by the prime contractor F H McGraw and Co. The stoppage halted work for a second time in two weeks with no picket lines. E A Wende project manager for the atomic energy commission said only laborers carpenters cement finishers and electricians remained. Plane noses over pins two crewmen at Atlanta airport

Eastern Airlines constellation with Labor Day travelers nosed over at Atlanta Municipal Airport early today. The 60 passenger Detroit to Miami craft ran off the runway as it taxied to the loading ramp, pinning two crewmen in the crumpled nose while 54 passengers and other crew members were shaken but unhurt in the pre-dawn mishap.
