Prisoners Shot in Escape Bid at Michigan Penitentiary
In Jackson on August 30 Edwari Hantley Detroit. John Davis Kalamazoo. and Lige Bullard Detroit attempted a wall escape at the penitentiary. Huntley and Davis were killed. Bullard captured. Davis used stones from a hand fitted against guards as they attacked the wall. Guard Clark fired and later reloaded, wounding Huntley and Davis. Bullard surrendered. The guardhouse assault failed and the escape party was stopped.
