The Tombstone Epitaph reports General Christopher C Batterman died suddenly at 53 while superintendent of the Head Center Mining Company. Born Albany 1828, he long served Nevada mining, prison warden, state treasurer, adjutant general, and Odd Fellows leader. His funeral from Odd Fellows Hall featured Cochise Lodge and a rosewood casket with flowers and a large lily wreath.
Funeral procession in Tombstone includes the Tombstone Engine Co No 1 and Odd Fellows in large numbers. Burial at cemetery with ritual by Noble Grand and Chaplain. Eureka issues orders mourning Brig. Gen. Batterman of the First Brigade who died suddenly at Tombstone A T on the 28th. officers ordered to wear mourning badges for 30 days.
