Miners Strike Conference Fails to End Dispute

The big coal strike persists as the conference between miners, operators, and officials adjourns with no wage agreement. Miners reject the 61 cent compromise and insist on 69 cents per ton, while some operators push for restarting mines or importing labor. Court actions loom as both sides await ruling and a brief truce forms amid evictions and pay disputes in Plum Creek and Kanawha valley.

Mining deal forms for Smith and Best mines near Piute Canyon

Ex governor R. K. Colcord and J. A. Yerington joined by J. F. Parr and George T. Mulls have purchased the Moles mine with eastern and western extensions in Piute Canyon about eighteen miles northeast. Development plans include a deeper shaft, a mill, tramway and new power likely from white electricity or water. Colcord will supervise operations for now. Local consensus deems the group’s mines potentially valuable as work begins, while a tongue in cheek aside notes Klondike nightlife costs.
