Hicks Dry Goods Company in Remington will close out stock and shut down after many years of reliable service. The store drew customers from Wolcott Goodland and Fowler and will be missed by the community. It is rumored Mr. Hicks may relocate south and start a new dry goods business in a warmer town.
Mrs. Dudley Tyler hosted the Sew-and-Sew Club at Mrs. Alice Tyler’s home with guests and refreshments. The club schedules a Feb 3 meeting with Mrs. James Wood. Remington aims for attendance of one thousand before Easter. last Sunday’s turnout was lower. News mentions illness funerals in Denver, and local basketball games against Remington and Goodland with upcoming schedule and scores.
A call to families to value Sunday school and church life. Encouragement to drop old habits and join in music and communal worship next Sunday.
A neighborhood farewell gathering was held Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Brooks to honor three families moving away. About seventy attendees enjoyed music, games, and good food as M. W. Harwood Ed Lucas and Paul Krumlauff prepared to leave the area. Wishing them happiness in their new homes, the event reflected local ties and appreciation.
The Fortnightly Club gathered at the home of a former member on Ohio Street Wednesday afternoon January 25. Mrs. Carpenter and Mrs. Walter Johnston hosted as members discussed the axiom Where there is no Vision the people perish and topics included Our Town Problems and What other Communities are doing for Community recreation. Mrs. C. Baston presented on a plan for community betterment and Mrs Howard spoke to the subject with strong interest. Mrs. Lee Tinghette was a pleasing guest of the afternoon.
The R H S basket squad won both last week's games. Friday on the local floor against Fair Oaks H S by 27 to 7, then Saturday at Sheldon Hl by 16 to 13. Poor gym size at Sheldon slowed them but they prevailed. The ice harvest fills the ice house and events cool later. Jamison school in Tippecanoe county burned Wednesday morning during school hours.
The Ladies for the Presbyterian church will serve a chicken pie supper on Thursday evening February 2 at the usual place.

Fire swept the roof of Frank Howards residence on Monday afternoon. The rapid response of the fire company using a chemical hose limited damage to a large roof hole. No water was used. Sparks from the roof caused the blaze after Frank Howard attempted to start the Ford in a cold basement furnace.
