The Dorcas Club held a bridal shower for Mrs. Myrtle Dowell at Mrs. Elda Merritt’s home on a Wednesday afternoon in February. The house featured green and white Club colors. Guests enjoyed unique entertainment and a variety of dainty gifts, followed by refreshments served by the hostess.
Mrs. Fern Lough hosted a Matinee Musicale on Friday February 8 with a large club turnout. The program featured a cantata Esther review, vocal numbers by Miss Callie Bonner Miss Alta Lucas Miss Alice Walker and others, duets and a quintet, with assisting hostesses Mrs Harriet Rainier Miss Ruby Hamilton and Miss Marsha Capper.
The county publicized plan to place a small bounty on hawks to reduce their numbers. Game warden supports the idea, noting hawks are hard to kill and few hunters will actively pursue them, but a bounty could deter their impact on small game like quails.

The season has been profitable statewide with estimates of 500 muskrat 500 mink and over 4000 skunk hides marketed. Capes and Grang Cul ye advertise orders.

A former townsperson Lewis F Alter writes with details on ice harvesting near his father Lewis S Alter. He describes hauling 12 by 20 foot sleds, using 6 horses to move 3 to 4 tons. ice 20 inches thick and a cake weighing 376 pounds. He notes temperatures of 32 below zero.
Col Hanford MacNider national commander and Claude Gregg state commander will headline the Tenth District American Legion meeting in Monticello on February 15. About 500 ex service men expected, banquet at 6:30 with several leaders speaking, plus an Americanization Day program and Buddieshop entertainment. Thornton Williams Post leads the event. Cope Hanley is district chairman.
