Monroe school board threatens action over PSD debt plan
The Monroe County School Board, at a Monday meeting, threatened legal action against the Red Sulphur Public Service District and state officials over a 1994 sewer plant deal for James Monroe High School. Superintendent Lyn Guy said the district seeks credit and demands PSD acknowledge debt, while the board wrestles with a shrinking deficit and a moved enrollment plan. The district also joined a land condemnation suit and faced a $1,891.67 legal-cost bill, which the board planned to credit toward the service agreement.

Corridor H opponents file second federal lawsuit in DC
A West Virginia environmental group, Corridor H Alternatives, filed a second federal lawsuit in Washington DC challenging the 113 mile Corridor H project. They seek to reroute the highway away from a Civil War battlefield in Tucker County and widen nearby US 219 to four lanes. The suit follows an October 1997 ruling by Judge Hogan that the project complied with required procedures.
