Power plant emissions threaten mine jobs
Charleston AP report outlines a clash between West Virginia state officials and the EPA over reducing sulfur dioxide from the Kammer generating station in Moundsville. The dispute ties to possible mine layoffs at Consolidation Coal Co.’s Shoemaker Mine, which supplies about half its high-sulfur coal to Kammer. DEP and AEP argue feasibility, while EPA pushes scrubbers as a feasible fix within a year.
