Co defendant in infant paralysis case goes to trial
In Fayette County Circuit Court Gregory Stickler and Sheila Morales face charges of child abuse causing serious bodily injury to Ellis Avis, a 5 month old boy, from the 1997 incident. Morales was tried previously and found guilty. Stickler’s defense argues Morales acted alone while prosecutors tie Stickler to the injuries. The trial resumes with testimony about buckle fractures and a spinal injury, and doctors describe Ellis as unable to breathe independently, paralyzed from the neck down, with a prognosis of limited life expectancy.
