Fayette names new CAEZ board member
Fayette County Commissioner Gene Carte will join the Central Appalachia Empowerment Zone board, replacing John Witt who resigned after nearly five years. The CAEZ board must include one Fayette, Clay, Nicholas, Braxton or Roane county commissioner. other members are elected. Carte criticized the 4-C Economic Development Authority and suggested Fayette withdraw its funding to form its own authority. Witt defended 4-C and noted single county agencies’ weak track records. Witt also accused Arbuckle Public Service District of seeking grants without Region 4 approval and urged a Region 4 notice letter. Carte declined to sign.
