DNR to Host Public Meetings on White Tail Deer

The Division of Natural Resources will hold two public meetings in November at Twin Falls and Chief Logan state parks to discuss deer management. Director John Rader says the talks explain cooperation between hunters and landowners to control female deer numbers. Forty seven counties will open a six day antlerless season December 7 to 12, with 23 counties offering a nine day split antlerless season starting November 23, running with the firearms buck season on private land.

Fall wild turkey season opens in West Virginia counties

West Virginia begins fall wild turkey season this Saturday under state guidance. Fourteen eastern counties run four weeks, Preston County two weeks, nine counties one week with limited permits. Nesting was slightly below five-year average but mast crops are good, so harvest expected lower than last fall though more birds in the field. Birds will use oak mast and dogwood berries. grapes and black cherries are scarce. Biologists expect a mix of young birds due to late nesting. Lewis, Pleasants, Taylor and Tyler counties will be closed this year after last year’s open status and a two-year decline in numbers.
