Nicholas County Circuit Judge Gary Johnson upheld Friend's claim for compensation after Floyd Friend said he should have been hired as assistant boys basketball coach in October 1997. The board posted the opening, disputed dates and notices, and chose Steve Ferguson, who held a substitute certificate. Friend contends seniority favored him as a county teacher under state law.
WINFIELD AP A St. Al bans man pled guilty to bringing a pistol to a Putnam County school. Terry L. Fore admitted the Feb. 5 incident at George Washington Elementary in Putnam County Circuit Court. He faces up to 10 years and $5,000 in fines at a Dec. 14 sentencing, and remains jailed at South Central Regional Jail.
