Senior lineman Chris Angel, initially ruled ineligible, returned to star on a line that has driven a 6 4 record and 3 000 plus offensive yards. Angel slimmed from 295 to 266 pounds to boost speed and quickness and is projected as a college prospect with the support of coach Randy Black. The Travellers meet No 1 Fayetteville in a 1 30 p m playoff kickoff at Red Devil Stadium Oak Hill.
Greenbrier East endured a marathon road trip last year to face Parkersburg in an opening playoff, a journey that included a 10 a.m. departure, a turf acclimation stop at Laidley Field, a Ripley meal, and a four hour trek to Wood County where Parkersburg won 29 0. This year Greenbrier East hosts Buckhannon Upshur with an 8 2 record and No 7 ranking as Buckhannon Upshur travels for a 7 30 p m kickoff and the winner meets Parkersburg or Hurricane next week. Quarterback Pat Parker notes travel fatigue can affect performance.
Kelly Mann, a former Virginia Tech bench rider, dominated the West Virginia Conference for Concord, ranking top in assists, rebounds, and steals, and third in scoring. Coach Steve Cox notes Mann’s impact while highlighting Concord’s preference for homegrown players and strong program depth.
