Late defendant disrupts court in cocaine case
Circuit Judge John W. Hatcher Jr. ordered 36-year-old Patrick Groom to forfeit a $25,000 bond and remain jailed until his trial after he arrived late for jury selection in a cocaine delivery case. Groom had been unaccounted for as bailiff and backers searched the Fayetteville court, then appeared about ten minutes after the start. The incident delayed proceedings as Groom faces a felony charge for delivering cocaine on December 18 near Armstrong Creek. In other actions, David Pauley pleaded guilty to one count of marijuana delivery with the state dismissing a second count, and Hatcher denied a motion to suppress a statement. Pauley will be sentenced December 18 while remaining on bond.
