Monroe man gets at least 11 years on sex charges
Luther Daniel Carter Jr., 45, was sentenced in Monroe County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual abuse by a parent and one count of third degree sexual assault. Judge Robert Irons imposed five to fifteen years for the abuse counts and one to five years for the assault, to run consecutively, totaling 11 to 35 years. The victims, two of Carter's daughters, testified about years of abuse and described a shattered family life.

A Monroe County circuit judge dismissed indictments against Daniel J. Hines a Giles High School former teacher and coach for improper charging guidance giving the state leave to refile. Prosecutor Rod Mohler pledged new counts involving additional minor students and a January grand jury review.
