Greenbrier native Bimbo Coles to lead summer camp
Vernell Bimbo Coles returns to Greenbrier County to head a basketball and cheerleading camp at Greenbrier East High and Eastern Greenbrier Junior High for youths 8 to 18. Camp runs 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily June 29 to July 1, with lunch and a gift pack. A charity game July 1 features Coles and Co. against Woodrow Wilson alumni.

Two WVU Foundation Scholars Named From Local Students
Five West Virginia University Foundation Scholars were honored at a Charleston ceremony. Christopher Michael Osborne of Rockview and Michael Ryan Wood of Cool Ridge were introduced by Gov. Underwood and university leaders. The 40,000 dollar award covers four years of education and living costs with a study abroad stipend. Osborne plans to attend medical school and pursue cancer research. Wood, a Shady Spring High School student, has won multiple writing awards and is the first from his school named a Foundation Scholar.

West Virginia Teacher of the Year Susan Barrett of Cherry River Elementary in Richwood has been invited to a weeklong NASA space camp the first week of August with a tuition waiver. In other business, the Nicholas County board discussed five teachers taking May 28-29 as professional leave for the state high school girls softball tournament and approved funds for buses, a riding mower, and new textbooks for 1997-98 budget needs, with a move-up day on May 29 and the next meeting set for May 18.
