Alcohol linked to 20 year old drowning death in Marion County

A Beckley man, Michael Belcher, 20, drowned while attempting to canoe on the Tygart River in Marion County. After three days of exhaustive search with rescue teams from across West Virginia and Kentucky, his body was found Thursday morning. Authorities say alcohol played a major role and there were no signs of foul play.

Residents oppose annexation talks in Calloway Heights

About 70 residents from Calloway Heights and Sprague attended a Beckley meeting on annexation with most opposing the plan. Mayor Emmett Pugh III said the city has no interest in forced annexations and would require about 750000 in upgrades if areas joined.
