Raleigh County water rate increase tentatively okayed
The Raleigh County Public Service District awaits final approval from the Public Service Commission on a 4.5 percent rate rise seen as the first general hike since 1989. If approved on Aug 6, 3,089 customers will face higher bills starting in August, with minimum bills at 12.24 and 4,000 gallons at 24.48. The plan funds maintenance, buys two vehicles, adds a meter reader, and adds about 68,000 dollars annually in revenue. A separate 50,000 dollar Lego area water line extension for 37 homes, partly funded by 23,000 dollars in federal funds, should begin delivering water next week.
