Rare Petaltail Dragonfly Found in West Virginia Field
Oak Hill physician Hassan Amjad and entomologist Paul Wood confirm Tachopteryx thoreyi, a Petaltail dragonfly once thought extinct in West Virginia, near Pocahontas County. The find adds species to WV Odonata 135 and fuels ongoing research into Jurassic era insects and dragonfly evolution. Amjad plans further study and a forthcoming book Dragonflies of West Virginia.
