Weather Boosts State Fair of West Virginia Entries
FAIRLEA The entries are up at the State Fair of West Virginia this year says entries chairman Glenna Hefner. He says good weather drove increases across vegetables flowers and livestock with over 400 sheep and strong beef numbers. Dairy entries are down as farmers struggle financially. Hobby entries total 1300 with photography leading classes. Culinary contests attract strong participation including apple dessert Land O Lakes Margarine team Fleishmanns Yeast bread and governor’s cookie jar first lady’s candy box. Winners will be honored on Governor’s Day during harness racing ceremonies.

An overcast ceremony at Twin Falls Resort State Park unveiled a sandstone memorial honoring southern West Virginia coal miners who died in accidents or from work related diseases. Charleston woman dies in Princeton three vehicle crash
Evelyn Conley, 68, of Charleston died at Princeton Community Hospital after a crash on U S Route 460 in Princeton. Nine others were hospitalized as a van carrying six people including three children was struck by a car and pushed into a second vehicle. The driver of Conley’s vehicle was cited for failure to maintain control. The driver was Lena Buckland of Virginia. address unavailable.

Wheeling Suspension Bridge to Undergo 6.8 Million Renovation
The 1,100 foot Ohio River bridge opened in 1849 and connects Wheeling to Wheeling Island will close for 13 months for a $6.8 million renovation. A Pennsylvania firm will restore wire cabling decking and pillars while adding decorative lighting to resemble the 1850 appearance.
