K Nine unit K9s demonstrate at state water festival
Summers Raleigh and Fayette counties participated in the annual dog show along the Bluestone River. K9 director Bobby Cales said the event let handlers show children police techniques including drug searches and tracking. Fox the German shepherd helped locate narcotics and demonstrated officer protection.

Monroe board rejects Red Sulphur PSD bill over debt share
Monroe County school board votes to deny a 1891.67 bill from the Red Sulphur Public Service District for its share of a land condemnation suit tied to the James Monroe High School sewer plant. The suit settled last month and involved a 0.55 acre tract at Springfield Industrial Park. The board earlier joined the PSD in February 1994 and approved 3040 for a bond, while credit from a prior $105,000 SBA grant remains unpaid amid disputes. The panel also approved coaching salary changes to equalize pay and address recent Title IX concerns, with raises for the ninth grade football coach, assistant, band director, and middle school cheerleading coach.

Nicholas County park board after an executive session hired Della Legg as permanent park manager. Legg was appointed in May after the termination of Jason Turner following interviews of several candidates. Wayne Acord presented a 4565 check from the fair association for park use during the July county fair. Moose Lodge donated 500 to the park with allocation undecided. Pool season ends Aug. 26 with limited days Aug 29 30 and Sept 5 7. Lifeguards from Summersville to race Richwood during Cherry River Festival. Next meeting Aug. 27.
