Teen skateboarding returns to growth with NSGA report
The National Sporting Goods Association finds skateboarding leads 1997 growth among teens and other activities with a 36 percent rise in participation. About 6.3 million tried it, 2.3 million skateboarded 30 days or more, and roughly 80 percent were ages 7 to 17. Experts cite media exposure, the X Games and lifestyle appeal as drivers, while some critique ESPN praise as ad-supported.
