Water district rejects plant plan in favor of regional approach

The Boone Raleigh Public Service District faced a vote April 1 by the state Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council. The council rejected the PSD proposal to build a locally owned water plant, urging consideration of buying water from West Virginia American Water Co. instead. Chairman James Williams said regional systems save costs amid a state consolidation mandate and billions in water and sewer fixes. Williams warned hard choices ahead as funds are limited. Cathryn Harris of WV American asserted regional systems are more cost effective due to main expense dynamics, with details continued on page 14A.
