An Argentine Military Transport Service DC4 with 49 aboard crashed into the sea near Lima Peru, likely killing all on board. A search helicopter found an oil slick and two floating children’s toys traced to the passengers, mostly civilians including one Spanish nun.

Senate to Resume Strenuous Civil Rights Debate Schedule

Senate Democratic Whip Hubert Humphrey said the chamber will return to a much more strenuous schedule next week as voting resumes on jury trial amendments to the civil rights bill. He indicated late Tuesday sessions and Saturday sittings as the debate nears its 52nd day. The bill would ban discrimination in voting public accommodations education employment unions and use of federal funds.
