Carter Gains Endorsements in Indiana and Georgia

United Press reports Jimmy Carter won key endorsements in Indiana by Sen. Birch Bayh and in Georgia by former Secretary of State Dean Rusk. Ford won backing from Gen. William Westmoreland as campaigns roared in Indiana Alabama and Georgia with Reagan challenging in several states ahead of Tuesday primaries.

Egypt calls for emergency UN session on Israeli actions

Egypt urged an emergency United Nations Security Council session to address Israeli oppression and terrorism against Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. President Sadat ordered the council meeting with PLO participation, urging a rapid response and calling for discussions on Jerusalem holy sites and UN and Geneva resolutions.

Kissinger Tours Kenya Game Reserve

Secretary of State Henry Kissinger toured the Masai Mara reserve in Kenya between talks on a new Africa policy. During a two hour open jeep drive he viewed thousands of buffalo zebra giraffe and antelope and a lion kill before resuming meetings with U N delegates and a policy speech planned in Nairobi.

Deputies Quell Prison Fight at Juvenile Camp

In San Dimas deputies broke up a weekend riot at the county juvenile detention camp where about 70 inmates fought with fists rails and pipes. A dozen inmates were hospitalized with minor injuries while no officers were hurt. Cause of the disturbance was not immediately known.

Labor strikes widen as workers walk out nationwide

About 22,000 service workers left 3,000 NYC buildings while URW pickets blocked salaried staff at 15 Akron tire plants. Strikes idled Continental Trailways buses across nine southern states and UPS trucks in 13 midwestern states. No settlement seen in major urban and industrial actions, including San Francisco city workers and URW’s four tiremakers. Rubber strikers begin $35 weekly benefits Wednesday. some say they will stay out without pay. In New York, Building Service Employees Union Local 328 clerks and doormen walked out for a new contract. president John Sweeney cited a lack of offers from employers.
