Consumer food prices slip 1 percent in February
Washington reports seasonally adjusted February prices for consumer foods fell by 1.0 percent. Meats sugar and confectionery and vegetables declined while fish eggs cereal and bakery goods rose. Nonfood finished goods ticked up 0.1 percent.

Mariner 10 Nears Mercury Third Flyby Today
Televsion cameras aboard Mariner 10 were switched on in preparation for a third sweep past Mercury next Sunday. Jet Propulsion Laboratory planned to fire control jets to stabilize the 1,108-pound spacecraft which has rolled since its Sept 21 Mercury encounter. The flyby at 3:38 p.m. PDT will pass 192 miles from Mercury, returning about 650 pictures of the northern hemisphere and measuring Mercury's magnetic field first detected during the March 29, 1974 pass.
