Chessman Attorney Plans New Move To Save Him
San Francisco attorney George T. Davis said opponents of capital punishment would push a statewide initiative to put the issue before California voters possibly to save convict and kidnap rapist Daryl Chessman from a May 2 execution. SACRAMENTO UPI An administration backed anti smog bill moves closer to passage in the state Legislature. The Assembly Public Health Committee approved the bill by Ronald Cameron and sent it to the Ways and Means Committee. The measure pushes local control of air pollution, blames motor vehicles for smog, and would create a state vehicle pollution control board to approve smog devices studied by a state lab likely in Los Angeles. County supervisors could require the devices for motorists in their counties.
