The Apollo 9 crew Schweickart McDivitt and Scott completed a 221 mile earth orbit after a 9:02 a.m. EST engine firing described as smooth. They reported sleep and routine chores, with a breakfast of corn flakes bacon applesauce brownies and grapefruit drink.
Admiral testifies the Pueblo voyage was an authorized inquiry and discusses the sailing. Moorer submits a copy of Pueblo operations and notes standby air or naval forces provisions. He states the ship lacked heavy armament beyond .50 caliber guns aboard.
Soviet and Chinese forces clashed on the Amur River 400 miles north of Vladivostok. Soviet sources report 34 soldiers killed with many wounded, while China accuses Moscow of nationalist hysteria amid massive anti-Russian demonstrations.
Soviet forces halted traffic on the Berlin Helmstedt Highway for two hours as West Germany’s Kiesinger flew to West Berlin aboard a U S Air Force transport. East German guards blocked Drewitz and Marienborn checkpoints amid warnings of further disruption.

He is stable with IV feedings and medications discontinued, but remains very weak and will need time to regain strength after a week of treatment and a pneumonia development.
New York traders saw gains outpacing losses by more than two to one as turnover remained heavy. The rise followed a sharp late February auto sales increase, higher January construction spending, and ongoing high steel production, according to the UPI stock market indicator covering all traded stocks.
President Nixon met with Republican and Democratic congressional leaders in the Cabinet room and prepared to address the nation at 6 p.m. PST from the White House. The session included top aides and committee chairmen and followed briefings in Brussels, London, Bonn, Berlin, Rome, Paris and the Vatican.
CU President Joseph Smiley apologized for the inexcusable booing of Acting President S. I. Hayakawa by about 3 300 students at Colorado. He asked charges against violators and directed security coordination with Boulder police and county sheriffs to prevent a repeat of Monday’s disturbance. Hayakawa’s speech was interrupted by cans and bottles before he resumed.
Sirhan B. Sirhan testified at his murder trial admitting he shot Senator Robert F. Kennedy. He described fleeing Jerusalem for the United States as a boy, attending schools in Pasadena, and caring for his leukemia-stricken sister Ayda before his expulsion from college. He added he has not seen his father since leaving Jordan years earlier.
