In London a 73 year old bus conductor Jimmy McCartney ordered a portly bespectacled passenger to move from the steps and moments later apologized to Prime Minister Harold Wilson. McCartney, a staunch Labour voter, said he should have recognized McCartney.
Governor Reagan, in Sacramento, accepts a revised 465 million tax reform package he dislikes. The changes narrow a GOP split, including a one cent sales tax hike for property tax relief, as Democrats threaten opposition and floor debate proceeds.
A Eastern Air Lines Boeing 727 en route Baltimore to Miami was hijacked Saturday and redirected to Havana Cuba. The 96 passengers and seven crew landed safely at Jose Marti airport about 12:28 p.m. EDT after the hijacker demanded to call his daughter described as a “Miss Anthony” in Baltimore. The pilot Captain John R Brunning reported the diversion near Daytona Beach.

In Los Angeles three armed bandits robbed Crocker Citizens National Bank of $5,006. They forced customers and staff to the floor as they emptied three tellers. An elderly woman clutched a $25 bill and refused to release it, causing the thief to grab only half the money as they fled in a waiting car.
Three persons were killed when a single engine plane crashed near Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix. Officials said the craft, possibly from Manhattan Beach California, struck a 69 000 volt power line on approach and burst into the Salt River bed flipping onto its top. The victims were not identified.
