Supreme Court 1967 68 term features key decisions
The term produced landmark rulings on Negro rights in housing and education, police powers, and obscenity. It upheld New York textbook loans, allowed reasonable police searches with orders, outlawed mass picketing blocking public buildings, and limited symbolic speech in draft card burning while avoiding Vietnam legality questions. The term also addressed welfare issues, union picketing in private malls, and the death penalty amid criticism from Congress and the Poor People’s Campaign.
