U S Fili crashes in Cambodia near Phnom Penh
A U S Fili fighter bomber crashed 40 miles northwest of Phnom Penh amid heavy fighting between government troops and Communists. Both crewmen were rescued by Cambodian air force after about an hour. The crash, the first F111 loss in Cambodia, followed a strike on a strategic bridge near O Sandan. Ground fighting left one trooper dead and 15 wounded as reports say the plane may have supported troops along Highway 5. Authorities noted the cause remains unknown and insisted the aircraft was not shot down.
