Four condemned prisoners foiled in San Quentin escape
Four Death Row inmates at San Quentin were thwarted early today as one man was found outside his cell and three others remained in their cells. They had sawn through door bars, braided a rope from torn sheets, and built dummies to evade guards while planning to reach the North Cell Block roof. An immediate inquiry was ordered into how saw blades were smuggled into maximum security. Names given: Gregory Powell, Edmond Reeves, Joshua Hill, and Charley Pike. Powell was spotted outside his cell by Sgt. Gaspar, with guards reinforcing to stop the attempt.
