In Rialto an unknown thief shot Joseph A. Gonzales, 67, owner of the Rialto Motel, twice during a robbery. The gunman fled with cash in a metal box while Mrs. Gonzales, who is blind, could not identify the suspect.
A San Diego youth, 20 year old Harry Trimble, died when a cave roof collapsed at Pacific Beach. Victorville girl Sherry Williams, also 20, was seriously injured with a severed spine but dragged 30 feet for help. A KOGO cameraman treated Trimble but he died. The accident happened at the foot of 40 to 50 foot cliffs after rain loosened dirt.
