An advance party led by Paul Petzoldt reached the 11 700 foot level on Grand Teton with seven climbers, aiming to finish the 13 776 foot ascent today weather permitting. Chief ranger Atchison warned of scattered snow low clouds and 40 mph winds as a base camp team prepared a three man ascent with a reserve.

Mamie Eisenhower Improves at Walter Reed Hospital
Mamie Eisenhower, 79, was hospitalized Wednesday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center with a viral infection. A hospital bulletin says she is alert, resting comfortably, and showing improvement after treatment, with tests indicating the infection is responding.
