Hostages Fate Tied To Whim Of Prison Psychopath

In Jackson Michigan rioting inmates at Southern Michigan Prison released one hostage guard after more than 48 hours. Earl Eugene Ward 27 described as unstable led negotiations as 2600 inmates fought police with machine gun and tear gas. Bandits murder U S missionary in Thailand church

A bandit gang stormed a northeast Thailand village church Friday night and killed American missionary Priscilla Johnson as she sat at the organ, wounding her husband Paul after 18 assailants opened fire. Johnson, from Minnesota, died instantly. her husband was struck three times. The couple served with the Christian Missionary Alliance. Johnson had been brought to Bangkok by Royal Air Force plane. The bullets were removed at a Bangkok hospital.

Wanger Sentenced Four Months In County Jail

Hollywood producer Walter Wanger received a four month county jail term after being found guilty of shooting actor's agent Jennings Lang. Judge Harry Borde granted a stay of execution to begin June 4, allowing Wanger to wind up business and see his daughters. The conviction was for a lesser charge than assault with a deadly weapon with intent to murder. Maximum punishment for the convicted charge could have reached 10 years or a $5060 fine.
