Support for Big Four summit grows at United Nations

United Nations delegates from smaller nations voiced support for a Big Four summit proposed by Secretary General Thant to ease East West tensions and nuclear fears. Thant urged potential ministerial talks at the General Assembly to pave the way for top-level discussions among the United States, the Soviet Union, Britain, and France.

Enemy Forces Suffer Heavy Losses Near Cambodian Border

Reports from Saigon say two enemy columns totaling about 900 men attacked South Vietnamese camps at Thien Ngon and Phuoc Tan near Tay Ninh. At least 276 enemy troops were killed. 11 ARVN and 100 soldiers wounded. four American Green Berets were among the wounded. The clash coincided with heavy artillery barrages.

Red Bluff names 16 for Humphrey Committee in California

Sixteen prominent Red Bluff citizens were named today to form the Red Bluff Californians for Humphrey Committee. Tehama County chairman Frank Ammerman says Tehama County Democratic Central Committee members will be area chairmen including Robert Grootsveld Leo Hill Allen Peters Fred Feagin Mary Carlson Diana Jarvis Clara Parker and Alma Liebersbach. Additional members are James G. Ford, Mr and Mrs Fred Engle Jr Mr and Mrs Don Webster and Duane Hill. Gordon Buck and his wife will serve as Humphrey coordinators in Cottonwood. Mrs Buck is Muriel Humphrey’s sister.

Physical Education Workshop Slated Tomorrow

A countywide physical education in service workshop is set for Red Bluff High School gymnasium tomorrow. It runs from 8 45 a.m. and features lead up games for volleyball basketball baseball and rainy day activities with remedial exercises. Local Man Faces Check Charge in Corning Court

Maurice Ray mond Brown, 34, of Red Bluff Route 2, is due in Corning Justice Court at 10 a.m. October 7 on a $10 check charge tied to a January Safeway payment. A warrant reached El Dorado County. Brown was held by Red Bluff police September 25 and jailed in Tehama County on intent to defraud, posting $300 bail.

Retarded Children Benefit From Gas Sales Event

Tom Walker announces three Tehama County Shell stations will donate three cents per gallon sold on October 2 and 3 to the Aid To Retarded Children program. Participating stations include Vern's Antelope Shell and Dick Berg's Shell. Buyers must say the contribution is for retarded children to receive double stamps.

Runaway San Bruno Girl Arrested After Freight Train Chase

A 14 year old San Bruno girl rode a northbound freight from Oakland to Roseville before deputies halted the pursuit at Gerber. She is held at Curtiss E Wetter Juvenile Hall awaiting transport home after identification and questioning.

Nixon campaigns against Wallace in South over third party risk

Republican Richard Nixon argued a Wallace vote would be a vote for Humphrey and deny Wallace a path to the White House. He urged that Wallace cannot win the South and said the election could go to the House if neither candidate gains a majority. Wallace headquarters denied romance reports involving a campaign worker and said the aide was dismissed for erratic behavior. Wallace’s wife Lurleen, a former governor, had died earlier. Humphrey focused on the West Coast swing.

Abrams weighs swap of rear-echelon troops for fighting battalions
