Plane Crash Kills 3 Trinity Teachers
WEAVERVILLE The Trinity County School District superintendent Steve Searcy and two high school teachers Robert Omstead and James Kennedy died in a single engine plane crash on the town’s north main street just after takeoff. Witnesses reported the craft stalled under a fog blanket while flying low to avoid clouds. The trio, all from Weaverville, were en route to Chico for an educators workshop. The high school closed and planned to stay shut through Thursday. Coroner George Files said all three men were the victims.

Accident Patrol Car Responding To Crisis No Siren
A Tehama County Sheriff patrol car with a known inoperable siren responded to an emergency in Gerber with red lights but no siren. Deputy Christopher Schaul, 24, Red Bluff, drove the vehicle after Mary Louise Young, 33, Gerber, turned left in front of it. Passenger Jeanetta R. Gratz, 35, Gerber, suffered back injuries. The deputy used a horn due to the faulty siren. a replacement siren had been ordered.
