California Householders Face Era of Higher Energy Bills
Pacific Gas and Electric faces multiple rate hikes in 1973 raising the average California household energy bill by about 19 percent for gas and 25 percent for electricity. The company has six increases already this year with four gas and two electric, plus four more pending before the California Public Utilities Commission. The largest filing on August 30 seeks 233 million dollars annually, adding about 1.23 dollars per month to gas and 2.13 dollars to electricity for the average home. Additional offset increases have already added 24 cents monthly to gas and 79 cents to electricity.
