U S fighter bombers attacked two antiaircraft sites about two miles north of the DMZ on Friday. The strike involved three planes that reportedly escaped undamaged. Tass claimed a U S plane was shot down near Ha Tinh Province, a report denied by a U S spokesman.

A garage in the El Camino District sustained about 5000 dollars in damage after a structure fire started by a grinder. A car motorcycle and power mower were destroyed. Fire units from Tehama County Rural Fire Dept El Camino Volunteers and Gerber Fire District responded. Sadie Reno owned the garage. Three other fires along the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks were blamed on box car brake shoes.
The Rev. Elmer Page Cranston, 64, died in Corning Memorial Hospital after months in poor health. A Baptist minister over 30 years he led Vinn Community Baptist Church 1948-1951 and lived in Corning area the past two years. Survived by wife Lucile a son Earl and four daughters, 19 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and three sisters. Moscow AP report confirms Nikita Khrushchev, former Soviet leader from 1953 to 1964, died aged 77 likely from a heart attack. He had long heart trouble and death details were initially undisclosed to the public. Khrushchev once traveled to the United States in 1959 in a visit that sparked turmoil.
President Nixon won a qualified pledge of cooperation from AFL-CIO President George Meany and other union leaders on a wage-price stabilization plan set to begin after the current price wage freeze ends at midnight November 13. Meany said unions would press for restraints on profits as well as wages and prices during Phase 2. Japanese officials at an annual economic parley signaled concessions by liberalizing some imports to the United States, including watches and tomato puree.

Final rites were held yesterday at Sacred Heart Church for Maggie Florence Baker age 81. Rev. Aiden O'Reilly officiated with pallbearers Charles W. Sanford Loyal Dillavoy Porter Biddle Jack E. Dinnean Alonzo H. Eaton and Robert Mieske. Interment in St Marys Cemetery directed by Hoyt Cole Chapel of the Flowers. Baker taught in Tehama Shasta and Glenn Counties and was named Anderson School teacher of the year in 1956.
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon in Hoyt Cole Chapel of the Flowers for Miss Myrtle May Setser. The Rev. Doyle Porter of the First United Methodist Church officiated. Interment was in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
