Hundreds of tense Indian demonstrators prepared for a likely battle with police to defend their illegal occupancy of a federal building seized last Thursday. The government signaled a confrontation to end the four day takeover.
The merchants division of the Red Bluff Tehama Chamber of Commerce will meet at 8 a.m. tomorrow in the Palomino Room annex to discuss Christmas opening and promotion. All merchants are urged to attend and coffee will be served.
Democratic rival George McGovern travels from New York to Los Angeles to close his uphill bid while President Nixon campaigns from San Clemente. Sargent Shriver and Spiro Agnew also plan last day appearances as polls show a Nixon Agnew landslide potential. McGovern accuses Nixon of deceiving the nation on Vietnam peace and laments congressional limits, while Nixon urges voters to a decisive, high-minded choice.
Three U S helicopters were shot down within 14 miles of Da Nang Sunday. The U S Command reported two American fatalities and three wounded, as an Army Air Cobra gunship unit engaged.
An OH6 light helicopter was shot down 14 miles south of Da Nang killing one crewman and wounding another as a Cobra gunship was destroyed. A second OH6 recovered casualties and a relief pilot evacuated the damaged aircraft. Eight hours later a third OH6 was shot down six miles north with one dead and one wounded.
The California Highway Patrol investigates a suspected hit-and-run that killed Toni Broxson a Red Bluff woman. Her body was found about 30 feet from her car eight miles west of Red Bluff on State Route 36 at 6 15 p m. The ignition was off and the car in park, suggesting she left to seek help before the collision. Survived by father Royce E Broxson funeral services pending Hoyt Cole Chapel of the Flowers.
Tehama County Board of Supervisors will meet Wednesday at 10 in the County Court House chambers. The postponement comes as Tuesday is election day with offices closed.
Five weekend accidents were logged by the California Highway Patrol. James Flanagan Reifert, 16, of Cottonwood, rolled a vehicle on wet Bowman Road near I 5, injuring a passenger Michele Cantrell, 17. Mark Winter, 19, Red Bluff, overturned on Adobe Road with no injuries. Molinos driver suffered minor injuries after striking a power pole on 99EF near Champlin Slough. Pamela Danielson, 18, Woodland, veered off State Route 36 due to an eye issue, with no injuries reported.
Two Tidwell brothers William 26 and Robert 23 were arrested in Glenn County on murder warrants. They were previously convicted in a 1967 Lassen County triple murder but were acquitted on retrial. Officials withheld charge details citing pre trial publicity.
North Vietnam’s Xuan Thuy in Paris tells the New York Times a final session could seal a cease fire and troop withdrawal if the United States shows seriousness. Kissinger says one more meeting with Le Duc Tho is needed to settle draft terms. Thieu opposes the interim coalition and possible North Vietnamese troop presence in the south.
George R. O Connor a candidate for Tehama County District 2 supervisor said he erred in a television statement. He retracts claiming opponent Larry Lalaguna owed 50000 in taxes in 1970 and clarifies the undeclared property valued at about 50000 was discussed at the Nov 7 1970 board meeting.

Northern California Wool Growers members heard an optimistic update at the fall dinner with about 400 attendees. Speakers included Kenneth Lane and George Flournoy of state and regional associations, Bud Marsh, Bill Bonds, and Ron Knight, plus district figures. Lane cited coyotes as a key issue while noting California leads in control efforts. Marsh cited a high wool market not seen in 22 years.

Three Black candidates and two Mexican-Americans seek the Senate, with 49 Black and 11 Spanish-surnamed contenders for the House.
