Three Die In Tehama County Memorial Day Weekend Crashes

Tragedy struck Tehama County roads during Memorial Day weekend with three deaths in two days. A San Jose woman, Carolyn Davison, 19, died in a collision with a cattle truck near Kaufman Ave and Butler Slough in Daryville, while her car’s driver John F Lopes suffered severe burns. A separate early morning crash south of Corning killed an Oroville couple when their car was struck by another vehicle. Three California Forestry Division units responded to the incidents.

Memorial Day traffic toll climbs amid holiday travel

A fatal crash near Corning claimed Keith McKillip and Stephanie Margar et as a car stolen in Hamilton City struck them. Calves and a cow died when Owens Trucking rig overturned. Several injured. two suspects fled. Memorial Day traffic deaths rise with 270 nationwide by morning. NSC projects 550 to 650 fatalities for the weekend.

Fighting resumes in South Vietnam after cease fire end

Thousands of allied troops backed by tanks and bombers resume operations across South Vietnam as the 24 hour cease fire ends on Buddha's birthday. An American helicopter reported 14 enemy soldiers south of Da Nang. 11 were killed.

Arthur A Simon Dies in Corning at 64

Arthur A Simon a Corning resident and retired carpenter died Thursday night at Corning Memorial Hospital after a period of ill health. Born December 19 1904 in Onaga Kansas he moved with family to Corning in 1938. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Funeral arrangements are by Hoyt Cole Chapel with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Surviving are wife Irma six children two siblings and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services set for Tuesday at the Latter Day Saints Church with Sunset Hill Cemetery burial.

Memorial Day Observed in Red Bluff and Corning

Memorial Day ceremonies and parades were held in Red Bluff and Corning with a Oak Hill Cemetery service in Red Bluff led by Mayor James F. Hoffman. Corning featured a parade from Veterans Memorial Hall with veterans groups, scouts, school bands, and floats, followed by a program including remarks by E L Bud Gott and a wreath laying at the veterans obelisk.
